MDC remembers Lookout Masuku

The 5th of April 2012 marks 26 years after the death of one of the gallant sons of our beloved country, a liberator who dedicated his life to freeing our country from the ruthless clutches of colonialism. The MDC wishes to recognize the sacrifice shown by Lookout Khalisabantu Vumindaba Mafela Masuku who while innocent tragically died chained in a hospital bed like the worst of criminals by those that have betrayed the ideals of the liberation struggle.
The MDC to this day remains inspired by the works of Masuku and many other sons and daughters who preferred to die in pursuit of democracy, justice and fairness than servitude to dictatorship. The MDC wishes to make it known to all our other liberators that our pursuit for a just and a fair Zimbabwe is rooted on the ideals of the liberation struggle.
It is because of our undiluted commitment to the principle of "POWER TO THE PEOPLE" that we are fighting for devolution of power in the constitution making process, we wish on this day to reiterate our commitment to the people of Zimbabwe that we will unequivocally fight for a devolved government system to the bitter end. We believe that the continued concentration of power at the capital is a betrayal of the aspirations of the people of this country that were the basis of the liberation war. We are aware that the traitors of the revolution, who are also responsible for the death of Lookout Masuku, are out to criminalise the quest for devolution of power absurdly calling it federalism and cessession. As a party just like General Masuku we prefer to be with the people than to be with the traitors, we thus will not compromise on devolution of power.
It is the painful death of this great commander and thousands of Zimbabweans who have perished under the Zanu pf rule which inspire us to defend the establishment of a Truth and Reconciliation Commission as an instrument to bring healing and forgiveness to our fellow countrymen that are traumatized by the genocide, torture and intimidation. To the perpetrators of political violence and those that benefit from it we remind them of the wise words of General Masuku who said," We are fighting for the liberation of these people. If we kill them, whom are we going to rule?"
The MDC celebrates and cherishes the independence and sovereignty of the people of Zimbabwe. We honour our compatriots who toil daily for the progress of Zimbabwe so that the values and principles of the liberation struggle on liberty, freedom, equality, tolerance, patriotism and economic development can become a reality for all Zimbabweans
