Mozambique has been officially confirmed as the host of the 12th edition of the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Youth Games, set to take place from 4 to 13 December 2026. The announcement follows the signing of a Protocol Agreement between the Government of Mozambique and AUSC Region 5 during a high-level ceremony held in Maputo.

The agreement was signed by Minister of Youth and Sport Caifadine Paulo Manasse and Chief Executive Officer of AUSC Region 5 Stanley Mutoya, cementing a shared commitment to deliver a world-class multi-sport Games that celebrates youth, unity, and excellence in Southern Africa.

Speaking at the signing, Minister Manasse reaffirmed Mozambique's readiness and determination to stage an exceptional event:

"Mozambique embraces this opportunity with pride and purpose. We are committed to delivering a Games edition that empowers our youth, promotes regional unity, and leaves a meaningful legacy. This is more than sport, it is a statement of who we are as a nation and our belief in the future of our young people."

Stanley Mutoya, CEO of AUSC Region 5, commended Mozambique for stepping forward and praised the leadership of President Daniel Chapo for his strategic vision and support of youth-centered initiatives through sport:

It signals a full-circle moment for the Region 5 Youth Games and reflects Mozambique's unwavering dedication to the power of sport in shaping lives. The Games are a key implementation tool of the SADC Protocol on Culture, Information and Sport, and align with the African Union's Agenda 2063 specifically its focus on youth empowerment, health, regional integration, and cultural exchange. The Region 5 Youth Games provide a unique platform for athletes under the age of 20 to compete at an elite level while fostering friendships, unity, and cross-cultural understanding.

Preparations for the Games will commence immediately, led by a Local Organising Committee working closely with the AUSC Region 5 Regional Organising Committee.
