Cara Black and partner through to second round

ZIMBABWE'S leading female tennis player Cara Black and her playing partner Sania Mirza from India fought their way into the second round at the Sony Open at the Tennis Center at Crandon Park in Miami on Thursday evening.
The fifth seeded pair faced stiff resistance from the unseeded Taipei pair of Hao-Ching Chan and Yung-Jan Chan before prevailing 6-3 6-7(8) 10-8 in the first round of the $5 427 105 WTA Premier tournament.
They next face Georgia's Oksana Kalashnikova and Russia's Alisa Kleybanova in the second round.
Meanwhile, the Harare-born Black has made a return to the WTA top 10 doubles rankings after reaching the final of Indian Wells with partner Sania Mirza of India last week.
Black, who retired at the end of the 2011 season to have baby Lucky with husband and long term coach Brett Stevens and after being away from the WTA Tour for a year, made a very impressive return in 2013, flying up the rankings to end the year in the top 15 having played with Australian Anastasia Rodionova before linking up with Mirza.
