Mamelodi Sundowns fullback Method Mwanjale has been named captain of the Zimbabwean national team to face Mali in an away Afcon qualifier this weekend.

Team manager Shariff Mussa says Mwanjale will lead the 18-man squad, which includes six South African-based stars.

"We have many committed and experienced players in the team, but the coach felt that Mwanjale should lead the team this time," says Mussa. Mwanjale was chosen ahead the likes of Platinum Stars skipper Tapuwa Kapini and Kaizer Chiefs vice-captain Tinashe Nengomasha for that role.

This is not the first time that the Method has led Zimbabwe in international competitions, as he was thrust into the same role - captaining his country's home-based stars while still turning out for former Zimbabwean PSL champions Caps United.
