HIGHLANDERS' coach Erol Akbay is fretting over young star striker Prince Dube's future at the club as his rich vein of form could attract foreign suitors.
Addressing journalists at the club's weekly press conference yesterday, the Dutchman hailed Dube as a gem of a player, whose exploits on the field of play were exceptional considering his tender age and the fact that this is his maiden season in the elite league.
The 19-year-old Dube is the league's joint leading goal scorer with his South African bound teammate and strike partner Knox Mutizwa as well as FC Platinum's Obrey Chirwa on four goals after eight rounds of matches.
"He's one of the best stars in the game and I hope he gets better with each game. If he continues with his current form, we could lose him in the next year or two. I hope he can be in my team for some time so that he works more and achieves more for the team," said Akbay.
He said although he had introduced a number of youngsters into the team, Dube's talent and skills were exceptional compared to the other rookies. The other notable youngsters include Adrian Silla, Brian Banda and Danmore Chikwana.
"The other youngsters are also good; they have their own attributes but there is no doubt that Prince is one of the top talents in the country. Maybe it's because we are playing the style which suits him, but what I can only say is that he is exceptional," Akbay said.
The Young Warriors' striker was a ball of nerves at the beginning of the season, possibly due to the fact that it was his maiden Premiership appearance, but slowly found his feet as the season wore on.
He missed an avalanche of chances at the start of the season and only scored his debut Premiership goal in the third match of the season against Tsholotsho. He then went on to score a brace in the sixth league match against Ngezi Platinum, but it is his volley against old nemesis Dynamos last week that has set tongues wagging about his immense talent.
Sources at Bosso said Dube, now fondly referred to as "The Prince", has a tag of around $90,000.
Akbay said although he wasn't happy about his charges' performance in their historic win against Dynamos, he was proud of his boys.
"The match was so huge that I won't say anything negative about my team," said Akbay.
