TSHOLOTSHO FC assistant coach Bongani Mafu is today expected to be named as the National Football Association of Zimbabwe (Nafaz) technical and development committee vice-chairman, Chronicle Sport reported.
The former Highlanders head coach, who holds a German International Coaching Certificate as well as a Uefa B Licence, will deputise Nafaz vice-president Omega Sibanda, who chairs the committee as well as the high performance committee.
Mafu was strongly linked to the post of technical director, which has now been taken by former Harare City coach Taurai Mangwiro.
While Sibanda could not confirm the appointment, highly placed sources yesterday said that Mafu would be second in charge of the technical and development committee, which Mangwiro reports to.
"Mafu was initially seconded for the post of technical director because that post needs someone with a teaching background, but Nafaz eventually settled for Mangwiro, who is also a teacher by profession. Mafu will now be second to Omega in the technical and development committee," said the source.
Meanwhile, the rest of the committee members as well as the high performance committee are also set to be announced today, with indications that ZPC Kariba and veteran coach Sunday Chidzambwa will be named as vice-chairman of the committee, which is largely tasked with reviewing the performance of all national teams.
Some other names being touted include Gibson Homela, Nelson Matongorere, Rahman Gumbo, South African-based Alexander Maseko, Methembe Ndlovu and Rosemary Mugadza.
