Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe chief executive officer, Obert Muganyura, claims that Zimbabwe to start receiving digital signal in August this year.

Muganyura told ZiFM that the country will be fully digitalised by February 2016.

Zimbabwe missed the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) deadline to digitalise local broadcasting by June 2015.

Zimbabwe bought digital transmission equipment worth $6 million using part of a $125 million facility signed between the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe and China's Huawei International.

Part of that equipment is what BAZ is installing at various sites in the country.

Muganyura, blamed restrictive measures that Zimbabwe was slapped with for government's failure to digitalise.

He said the measures had hampered BAZ's capacity to send money to equipment suppliers.
