Mnisi said he was with Mkwaiwa in Witbank on Saturday and he had appeared to be fine.
"I'm sad my friend passed on after having spent some quality time with him a day before," Mnisi said.
Daily Sun contacted Tina, but she was too distraught to talk.
"I'm on my way to the clinic to find out what happened," she sobbed.
One of Tina's friends said Prosper was still taking medication after an accident last year. He was believed to be well on his way to recovery. Sunday Sun was the last publication to report about Mkwaiwa, last month. This was after he kicked Tina out of their love nest because of their fights.

The talented South African had become a regular feature on the local music scene, having played at numerous events.
According to reports, Bojo Mujo passed away peacefully in Pretoria on Saturday after a short illness .
Mujo was best known for hits like Summer Rain, Hlonolofatsa and Thando Lwami, among many others. His manager Sello Lehlake said: "Bojo Mujo's first love was to make people dance. Although he's no longer with us, his music will live among his fans forever."
