In a bold move to modernise traditional healing practices, renowned Zimbabwean healer Sekuru Nyangatayani (born Peter Chingudzi) has announced the incorporation of scientific machinery into his surgeries and medicine-making processes.
Fresh from an international medicinal conference in Hong Kong, China, the Glendale-based healer revealed that he had acquired state-of-the-art equipment aimed at professionalising and streamlining traditional healing.
"We have been doing things the old way for far too long. From this conference, I’ve come to appreciate the use of machinery to improve efficiency and effectiveness," Nyangatayani said.
"We acquired state-of-the-art machinery which we will be introducing into our traditional surgeries. In that way, we are embracing the essence of infusing both art and science as traditional healers."
He explained that the machines will help ensure consistency, precision, and quality control in the preparation of medicines and execution of procedures.
"By incorporating machines into our medicine-making process, we can ensure consistency, precision, and quality control. This is a game-changer for our industry," he added.
At a recent expo, Nyangatayani explored technologies that assist with grinding herbs, mixing concoctions, and automating repetitive tasks—allowing healers to focus more on patient care.
"Precise measurements and consistent mixing can lead to more reliable and potent medicines. These machines will help us maintain high standards of quality and purity in our products."
While some may fear that technology could dilute traditional practices, Nyangatayani believes it will help preserve cultural heritage.
"By modernising our methods, we can make traditional medicine more accessible and appealing to a wider audience, while still honouring the principles and knowledge passed down through generations."
As Zimbabwe’s traditional healing community continues to evolve, more practitioners are expected to follow Sekuru Nyangatayani’s lead in adopting modern technologies to enhance their craft.
