The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Health and Child Care has toured Avoca Rural District Hospital in Insiza, Matabeleland South Province, as part of its ongoing assessment of healthcare infrastructure across the region.

Deputy Chairperson of the committee and Hwange Central Legislator, Daniel Molokele, described the visit as both purposeful and unexpectedly heartwarming.

"While touring Avoca Rural District Hospital this afternoon, a burst of joy lit up the corridors as Members of the Portfolio Committee on Health and Child Care bumped into a new life," Molokele said.

"Their mission to assess the hospital's facilities was joyfully arrested by the miracle of a new life. But no one minded. A beaming mother cradled her newborn baby boy, and the committee members could not resist showering the little champ with love, laughter, and a generous gift of cash."

Molokele said the moment served as a powerful reminder of the committee's core mandate  -  to serve and uplift communities.

"The committee members' faces lit up with genuine smiles, their connection with the community strengthened by the simple act of sharing joy," he added.

The tour forms part of Parliament's broader initiative to evaluate the state of health institutions in Matabeleland, amid growing calls for improved service delivery and equitable resource allocation.
