A Bulawayo man employed at Bobs Mine 2 in Cement Siding on the outskirts of the city has appeared in court facing charges of headbutting his workmate before axing him on the left leg accusing him of saying bad things about him to their employer.
Blessing Phiri (28) appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Nomagugu Maphosa charged with assault as defined in section 89 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23.
He was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to 6 September 2021.
The State alleges that on 25 August 2021 and at around midnight Phiri and his workmate Tembelani Ndlovu were sleeping in the same room at their workplace when an altercation ensued.
It is reported that Phiri was accusing his workmate of saying bad things about him to their employer and he prodded Ndlovu saying he wanted to know his motive of spreading gossip about him to their boss.
Without hesitation, Phiri reportedly headbutted Ndlovu once on the mouth before he took an axe and struck him on his left leg.
As a result of the attack Ndlovu sustained a deep cut on his left leg and a swollen lower lip and was medically examined.
The matter was reported to the police leading to Phiri's arrest.
