The troubled Zifa Southern Region Division One League team, Zimbabwe Saints, has been expelled from the league due to their failure to fulfill fixtures and non-payment of affiliation fees. This expulsion occurred on September 14th, and it is not the first time the team has faced such a situation, as they were previously expelled in 2014 under similar circumstances.
The decision to expel Zimbabwe Saints was communicated to the club through a letter from the Zifa Southern Region administrator, Augustine Ndlovu, citing the league's rules and regulations, specifically article 22.4. The letter stated, "We wish to advise you that the executive committee, as per our rules and regulations article 22.4 of the league, has resolved to expel you from participating in the league games due to failure to fulfill three matches and non-payment of affiliation fees."
The matches that Zimbabwe Saints failed to play included those against Mosi Rovers on June 17, Binga Pirates on July 26, and another one against Mosi Rovers on September 13.
However, Zimbabwe Saints' vice president, Ishmael Kaguru, expressed his lack of awareness regarding the expulsion and claimed not to have seen the letter. He said, "This is news to me. As far as we know, we are still in the league."
Zimbabwe Saints has been struggling in the league and faced the prospect of relegation, having encountered difficulties in securing victories. Kaguru previously emphasized the club's urgent need for financial support to stabilize its operations, stating that their primary challenge was funding.
