Zimbabwe cops forced to learn isiNdebele

GOVERNMENT has widened the training of ZRP officers to include the 16 languages as provided in the constitution, Home Affairs deputy minister Obedingwa Mguni told parliament on Wednesday.
Chewa, Chibarwe, English, Kalanga, Koisan, Nambya, Ndau, Ndebele, Shangani, Shona, sign language, Sotho, Tonga, Tswana, Venda and Xhosa are the 16 languages provided for in the constitution.
NewZimbabwe.com reported that Mguni was responding to a question posed by MDC-T legislator Jessie Majome who wanted to know steps taken by the ministry to ensure that police are taught sign language in order to assist the deaf effectively.
The minister said the effort has seen police training being stretched from the historical six months to one year.
