Police in Mutawatawa are looking for two-PFungwe men who are suspected to be behind the murder of a fellow gold panner in a love triangle.

Nelson Chiriri and Pardon Chiodza of Chakupa Village, under Chief Chitsungo, reportedly fled after killing Tapiwa Marisa (35) using fists and logs.

Efforts to get a comment from police in Mashonaland East province were fruitless yesterday.

According to information obtained by this paper, on August 27, the two suspects were drinking beer with the now-deceased at a tuckshop located at Rash panning site.

It is reported that Marisa was also in the company of his friend Knowledge Matimura (28).

While drinking, Chiodza had a misunderstanding with another imbiber, identified as Vengi Muzvova, that led to a fistfight.

It is reported that Matimura tried to restrain the two, but was struck with a log on the head and fled from the scene, leaving the two fighting. Marisa left the tuckshop and went to his shack to rest.

At around midnight, the suspects reportedly followed Marisa, broke into the shack and found him sleeping with his two sons aged 10 and 12.

They began assaulting Marisa with fists and logs while his sons were watching.

It is reported that the two accused demanded Marisa to disclose the whereabouts of Matimura, who they said had snatched a 19-year-old woman who was a girlfriend of one of them.
The suspects continued assaulting Marisa before his sons fled screaming for help.

Matimura then arrived and found Marisa already dead before reporting the matter to the police at Mutawatawa. The body was then ferried to Mutawatawa Police Station.
