Harare - Civil rights activist and socialite Wellence Mujuru is the target of a massive online smear campaign, Khuluma Afrika has reported.

Wellence Mujuru, largely referred to as Joice Mujuru's son is a vocal socialite and online activist in Zimbabwe, who has drawn the ire of several heavyweights in the country's ruling Zanu PF and Mugabe's two adult children Robert and Chatunga.

The campaign, whose documents were seen by Khuluma Afrika seeks to attack the integrity of Wellence by claiming that he lies(d) about being Joice Mujuru's child.

Objectives identified in the campaign included 'painting Wellence as a conniving fraud who has been lying to the Mujuru family to extort money from them' by 'riding on the fact that Joice Mujuru does not have a male child', and that no relation exists between Wellence and the Mujuru family.

Khuluma Afrika was quoted by faceless online characters who claimed that Wellence Mujuru was the son of a ZESA contractor in Marondera, and had no relation to the Mujuru family.

However, Khuluma Afrika established that this is false. Khuluma Afrika understands that Wellence Mujuru is the son of Joel Mujuru, an elder brother to the late General Solomon Mujuru.

Khuluma Afrika established with firmness that Wellence is indeed a Mujuru, and that the General, who did not have a male child with Joice considered him to be his son until his death.

Wellence was raised in most parts in the Mujuru homestead, and is considered a very close son.

A family source within the Mujuru family confirmed this.

"We are Shona. There is no Maiguru or Mainini (aunty). There is no Babamunini or Babamukuru (uncle). A father is a father. A mother is a mother. Mwana wa Mai Mujuru. Mwana wavo. (He is Joice Mujuru's son). And that is it."

Wellence Mujuru laughed off the plot when contacted by Khuluma.

"I'm not surprised by these baseless accusations aimed at trying to defect people from the real issues that need to be addressed in Zimbabwe, my voice won't be silenced. Neither will this change the overwhelming fact that this govt cannot self sustain and that as youth we will push for change"

Mujuru added that he will remain focused on his philanthropic work and would remain vocal in the face of any online assaults.
