The government has started investigations into the meat industry supply value chain to take corrective measures in stamping out price increases for related commodities.

The rise in prices of meat-related products is a cause of concern that has seen government holding closed door meetings with players in the meat value supply chain to stamp out the pricing madness in the sector.

Insiders who attended the closed door meetings this Tuesday told the ZBC News, the meat industry players submitted their concerns on costs to the National Competitiveness Commission (NCC), chaired by Mr Kumbirayi Katsande for assessments.

Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries president Mr Sifelani Jabangwe told ZBC News government through the NCC has therefore started findings into the meat industry value chain on pricing models and cost of production.

"The meat industry value chain is a key cause for concern that needs urgent attention," said Mr Jabangwe.

The meat industry value chain which comprises the beef industry, pork sector, dairy firms, chicken and eggs producing companies and the entire livestock products has come under criticism from consumers over the unjustified price increases for the end products with experts calling for reversals of pricing hikes to the old models.
