Harare West MP Jessie Fungayi Majome has warned citizens and politicians to stop the bootlicking of leaders habits saying this has resulted to the creation of monsters.
She said recently at the National Assembly sitting she expressed her cautious praise of the New Dispensation when we debated Hon. Irene Zindi's congratulatory message on the inauguration of the 3rd President of Zimbabwe.
"I congratulated the new President and wished him good health. I warned Parliament from going into overdrive with the familiar bootlicking, adulation, hero worshipping and praise but be longer on insisting and holding the executive to account. He indeed has an onerous task in turning around the fortunes of our nation," she said.
"I urged the President to address 2 crucial issues: Constitutional Implementation. I gave an example of the government's disregard of Section 164 which guarantees judicial independence, when Ministry of Justice Perm Sec announced the appointment of judges. The Executive must not be involved the running of the Judiciary. The sooner we can implement the Constitution the sooner we can have efficient independent commissions."
She said under Mugabe's rule, traditional leadership was abused to serve his political party.
"One of them is even remembered as saying kuti VaMugabe vachatonga kusvika madhongi amera nyanga translating to Mugabe shall rule until the donkeys have grown horns. Maybe he was prophetic. Maybe there are some donkeys somewhere that have grown horns because the former President Mugabe is no longer ruling Zimbabwe. Section 213 of the Constitution provides that traditional leadership is independent and in particular it provides that traditional leaders must not act in any partisan manner," Majome said.
