THE South African government has suspended an immigration official and three supervisors at the Beitbridge Border Post after a video of her scrolling her smartphone as Zimbabwean travellers waited to be served went viral.
The video started circulating on social media networks on Tuesday attracting widespread criticism from Zimbabweans who shared their frustrations over delays at the South African entry point.
In the video, the immigration official is seen chatting and viewing pictures on a smartphone while processing Zimbabwean travellers' passports.
The video was shared by Home Affairs Minister, Malusi Gigaba, who said he was informed of the video on Wednesday morning and has asked the Department of Home Affairs to investigate the matter.
He also said he wants swift action taken against the official.
