President Emmerson Mnangagwa has cancelled a rally he was set to address in Hwange amid reports that he has opted to meet the business community in Victoria Falls.

"Please be advised that President ED Mnangagwa is no longer addressing the people of Hwange as planned. He has had rushed to Vic Falls to address the ZNCC AGM. He will return to Lupane at a later date to meet the people of Mat North," Zanu PF member Nick Mangwana shared on the micro blogging site, twitter.

Mnangagwa commissioned the construction of the $1 billion Hwange 7 and 8 Power extension project in Hwange today.

The two units are expected to add 600 megawatts to the power station, whose generation capacity currently stands at 920 MW.

The project is being financed through a loan from China Export Import Bank.

Zanu PF leadership in Matabeleland North province had initially said Mnangagwa will address a rally after the ground-breaking ceremony.

The cancellation of the rally comes a few days after he survived a bomb attack at White City Stadium where he addressed a campaign rally.

A total of 49 people including senior government and party officials as well as security officers were injured in the attack and two have died.
