MDC Alliance official Discent Collins Bajila has said it was not true that declared President Emmerson Mnangagwa has been appointed an incoming Chair of the Southern African Development Community Troika indicating that the position is for Zimbabwe not a defective President.

"On the issue of Chair of SADC Troika on Defence and Security. It is not correct to say Emmerson Mnangagwa has been appointed in coming Chairman of the Troika. Rather Zimbabwe has been appointed Deputy Chair of the Troika," he said.

"The Troika is, by SADC Statutes, comprised of 3 member states namely the Troika Chair, the Troika Deputy Chair and the immediate past Troika Chair. Each member state serves 3 consecutive years on the Troika. First as Deputy Chair, Second as Chair and third as immediate past chair. The Deputy Chair is always the only new member of the Troika."

He said it's only next year in Tanzania, at the 39th SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government that Zimbabwe will be in coming Chair of Troika. Tanzania will be taking over from Namibia as Chair of the entire regional body.
