The Zimbabwean government has made moves to take over Vumbachikwe Gold Mine in Gwanda, Matabeleland South   for allegedly defying the country's indigenisation laws.

Speaking to journalists in Bulawayo on Monday, Kasukuwere said he had sent recommendations to Mines and Mining Development Obert Mpofu for the Zimbabwe Mining Development Council to take over the running of the mine.

Directors of Vumbachikwe, believed to be Canadians refused to cede part of their shares to the Gwanda Community share Ownership Trust Scheme that was launched by President Robert Mugabe in May.

"There are some mine owners who behave like we are still in Rhodesia. Such are the directors of Vumbachikwe Mine in Gwanda who do not want to cooperate with the laws of this country. We have written to Mpofu asking him to send ZMDC to take over that mine," said Kasukuwere.

"Mpofu has shown that he is keen on the takeover of the mine and we will make sure that the state machinery moves swiftly to ensure that the takeover is completed soon.  They can go to court, heaven or hell but we are taking over that mine.

"We are not being ruthless but we will not allow an exhibition of such arrogance."
