Zimbabwe fears terrorists attack from Al-Qaeda

Zimbabwean Senators have expressed fears that the country could be attacked by affiliates to the AlQaeda terrorist group.
Discussing in Senate on Thursday, Senators said Zimbabwe could be attacked when the terrorist target neighbouring Mozambique.
However, deputy defense minister Victor Matemadanda said the government would be guided by the country's security services.
"That is an issue under the purview of the Joint Operations Command, they are the ones charged with assessing threats against the country and they haven't told me anything so we will be guided by them on the threats against the country," said Matemadanda.
The Al Qaeda attacked a military base in Northern Mozambique early July.
Al-Qaeda is a militant Sunni Islamist multi-national organization founded in 1988 by Osama bin Laden, Abdullah Azzam, and several other Arab volunteers during the Soviet–Afghan War. Al-Qaeda operates as a network of Islamic extremists and Salafist jihadists.
