Tsvangirai to receive French Award

Movement for Democratic Change leader, Morgan Tsvangirai, will tonight receive the French Legion Honour Award at the French Ambassador's residence in Harare. The French award, known in French as the "Ordre national de la Légion d'honneur", was created in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte and it is generally although not exclusively awarded for military service. While it is the highest decoration bestowed by the nation, a rather large count of individuals have received it.
55,000 were awarded during WWI.
As of 2000, nearly 114,000 individuals who had won the award were still living.
Notable leaders who have received the award include the former France President, Nicolas Sarkozy, South Africa's ANC senior politician, Tokyo Sexwale and Peter Sutherland the first director general of the World Trade Organisation.
