TWO Bulawayo security guards have been arrested for masquerading as police officers and collecting a $100 bribe from a resident they accused of violating Covid-19 protocols at the Centenary Park.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube identified the accused as Mduduzi Dube (31) and Fanuel Ncube (29) both from Pumula South.
"On June 26 the complainant was approached by the two at Centenary Park and they asked him why he was not wearing a mask and told him that he was under arrest after showing him some handcuffs," Ncube said.
He said the two demanded a bribe and the victim gave them $100.
Ncube said Dube and Ncube were arrested by the police officers, who were on patrol within the area after, realising that something was amiss about the duo.
