Copper cable thieves jailed 60 years

Six copper cable thieves were sentenced to a combined 60 years in jail by Bindura regional magistrate Amos Mbobo yesterday.
Pascal Chabvunga (22) from Mufakose, Brighton Magwenzi (38),Ronald Makarutse (29),Spenser Manonga (33), Mukombe Chenjerai (29), Innocent Likomba (30) pleaded guilty to the charge.
Prosecutor Carson Kundiona told the court that on Tuesday seven suspects pounced at Pidmond farm in Matepatepa to steal copper cables.
After dismandling the ZESA transformer an alert guard Isaac Kurasamoyo heard the noise and alerted other community members who managed to arrest the six while David Kamutiti managed to escape.
