Leader of the Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) Mqondisi Moyo, has made sensational claims that the late Insimbi ZeZhwane musicians, ' Mpofu ‘Ma Eli' Mathe and Thembinkosi ‘Maviri' Mpofu were killed by Zanu-PF.

The pair died last week in a horrific accident near Fatima in Lupane in Matebeleland North.

They were conferred liberation hero status by President Emmerson Mnangagwa and a memorial service was held in their honour at Amphitheatre in Bulawayo last Friday.

The government also committed to providing state assistance to the injured Insimbi ZeZhwane band members.

However, while addressing a party rally at Stanley Square on Saturday, the MRP leader accused Zanu-PF of orchestrating their death.

"Insimbi ZeZhwane has a song on Gukurahundi and if you look at it, it is Zanu-PF that killed them. How can they be called to perform in Binga and when they arrive there, the person who called them switches off their phone? They then received a call for someone else who tells them the gala they are to perform in is in Mashonaland,as they make their way there, they are involved in an accident," Moyo alleged.

Moyo said the basis for his accusations was that "most people don't understand that Zanu ndeyeropa (a slogan often used by the ruling party, which MRP interpreted to mean a blood party). They rule by killing and shedding people's blood."

"We know that Zanu-PF shed the blood of our brothers so that they can strengthen their rule.  They can kill us but Mthwakazi will be liberated," said the MRP leader,

"Zanu-PF can do what they can to stop the revolution but, in all honesty, our revolution goes on. Their folly is from 1980, Zanu has been using one strategy which is to kill people. That's why we mourn with the families of Insimbi ZeZhwane. We believe that everyone dies when their time has come not to call someone then kill them."

He added that MRP was a party that was on a drive to receive the culture of people in Matebeleland and Midlands.

"MRP will revive all that has been squashed by the dominant Shona system including culture. Open your eyes and as you have been following MRP from the beginning, we are teaching our people to understand their struggle so that they can begin to fight their own battles and defend themselves against the system."
