Former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere took to X (formerly Twitter) to report the alleged abduction and torture of Valentine Ziko, a student at Chinhoyi University of Technology. According to Mahere, the harrowing ordeal unfolded during a violent police raid when a group of unidentified men attacked and blindfolded Ziko, forcibly taking him to an undisclosed location.

The assailants, as described by Mahere, subjected Ziko to physical assault and cold-water torture while demanding information about the whereabouts of other named students. The student activist was reportedly beaten and coerced into unlocking his phone, where he faced interrogation about the Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU) and the Citizens Coalition for Change.
Of particular interest to the assailants was the CCC's strategy following the forced removal of CCC Member of Parliament, Hon Kufahakutizwe, from the Mabvuku Tafara constituency. Ziko, however, maintained that he was unaware of any CCC plans, prompting his captors to release him. He was subsequently dropped off near a local bridge, where he received assistance.

Fadzayi Mahere condemned the incident, emphasizing the need for all progressive citizens to denounce the hounding and torture of members of the Student Movement. In her tweet, Mahere asserted that advocating for improved student welfare, better learning conditions, and a more inclusive education delivery system is not a crime.
