The Chinese Embassy has extended a generous donation of solar lights, agricultural inputs, and groceries to the Zanu-PF Women's League, benefiting thousands of women, particularly the elderly.

A large crowd gathered at Herbert Chitepo Primary School in Zvimba East constituency yesterday to receive the items, which included 500 solar lights, tick grease, and food supplies such as cooking oil, rice, and 80 tonnes of wheat.

The donation was handed over by Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Zhou Ding, to Zanu-PF National Chairperson Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri. The items were then entrusted to Women's League Secretary and Senate President Mabel Chinomona for distribution.

Ambassador Zhou expressed China's commitment to supporting grassroots communities in Zimbabwe, emphasizing the importance of partnerships that promote sustainable development and uplift vulnerable groups.

"This donation reflects the enduring friendship between China and Zimbabwe. By empowering women and providing resources to address daily challenges, we are contributing to the improvement of livelihoods and fostering resilience within communities," he said.

The groceries and agricultural inputs are expected to provide much-needed relief during the festive season, with beneficiaries expressing gratitude for the assistance.

Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Marian Chombo, along with Zanu-PF provincial chair Mary Mliswa-Chikoka, attended the ceremony, commending the Chinese Embassy for its continued support.

"This gesture will undoubtedly bring Christmas cheer to many women, especially the elderly, who are the backbone of our communities. It aligns with our vision of empowering women and ensuring food security," said Minister Chombo.

The solar lights will enhance access to clean energy for rural households, while the agricultural inputs aim to bolster productivity among women farmers, particularly in tick and livestock management.

The donation underscores the strong bilateral relationship between Zimbabwe and China, with Ambassador Zhou highlighting future collaborations aimed at enhancing infrastructure, agriculture, and healthcare.

Zanu-PF representatives pledged to ensure the transparent distribution of the items, reaffirming their commitment to improving the welfare of women and vulnerable groups across the country.

As the festive season approaches, the donation brings hope and support to communities, reinforcing the importance of partnerships in driving grassroots development and poverty alleviation.
