Passengers aboard an Inter Africa bus traveling from Bulawayo to Mtshayeli in Tsholotsho narrowly escaped a fatal tragedy this afternoon when the vehicle overturned and landed on its roof.

The accident occurred shortly after the Gwayi River Bridge in the Nhlangano area. Miraculously, no fatalities were reported. All passengers were promptly rushed to Tsholotsho District Hospital, where most were treated and discharged. However, 12 passengers remain under observation, though their injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Tsholotsho District Development Co-ordinator, Mr. Aaron Gono, confirmed the incident, stating that preliminary reports suggest the driver lost control of the bus.

"The bus veered off the road and overturned. Fortunately, no lives were lost, though several passengers sustained injuries," Mr. Gono said.

Emergency services and local authorities acted quickly to ensure the injured passengers received medical attention. The 12 individuals still under observation are expected to make a full recovery.

While the lack of fatalities is a relief, the incident has reignited concerns about road safety and driver conduct, particularly on rural routes. Authorities are expected to investigate the cause of the accident and assess whether negligence or poor road conditions played a role.

Passengers and community members have called for stricter enforcement of road safety regulations to prevent future accidents.
