The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) has arrested former police officer Absolom Mudzamiri for allegedly defrauding a Harare woman of US$9,000 in a fraudulent residential stand deal.

According to Zacc, the victim, whose husband works in Botswana, responded to a Facebook advertisement in December 2023 for a residential stand in Budiriro CABS. Mudzamiri, posing as the legitimate owner, arranged a sale agreement through his lawyer, Milton Serima.

The complainant proceeded to pay US$8,500 for the stand, along with additional fees, bringing the total amount to US$9,000.

However, in July 2024, the woman and her husband visited the property, only to discover unauthorized construction taking place. Upon confronting Mudzamiri, he promised to refund them but failed to do so.

Following a report to Zacc, investigations revealed that the stand in question actually belonged to the Harare City Council, making the transaction fraudulent.

Mudzamiri is set to appear in court on Friday to face fraud charges.
