Tragedy struck in Tshaswingo, Beitbridge East, after a newly married couple lost their lives when their house collapsed on them while they were sleeping.
The incident, which occurred during the night, was attributed to continuous heavy rains that weakened the structure of their home.
Confirming the development, Beitbridge acting head of the Civil Protection Unit (CPU), Jahson Mugodzwa, expressed condolences to the grieving families and revealed that efforts were being made to provide assistance.
"Their house gave in after incessant rains, and the couple was asleep. We have mobilized some food to assist at the funeral," Mugodzwa said.
He also disclosed that the deceased woman was pregnant at the time of the tragedy, deepening the sorrow surrounding the loss.
Local authorities have since urged residents in flood-prone areas to seek safer shelter as heavy rains continue to pose risks across the region.
