The Masvingo - Glen Norah loop road will be temporarily closed to traffic from Thursday, 29 May, to Friday, 30 May 2025, to allow for final preparations ahead of the official commissioning of the Mbudzi Interchange, which will be renamed the Trabablas Interchange.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa is scheduled to officially open the newly constructed interchange on Friday, 30 May.
In a statement released on Wednesday, 28 May, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development urged motorists to use alternative routes such as Amalinda Road during the closure period. The Ministry, through its Department of Roads, explained that the temporary closure is necessary to ensure the safety of all road users and to facilitate a smooth launch of this major infrastructure project.
"The Ministry sincerely regrets any inconvenience caused and appreciates the public's cooperation and understanding," the statement said.
The new name, Trabablas, is derived from President Mnangagwa's liberation war moniker. The renaming was officially announced during a post-Cabinet briefing by Information Minister Jenfan Muswere, who explained that the change was approved to honour Mnangagwa's "visionary leadership."
Motorists are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and use recommended alternative routes until the reopening of the loop road after the commissioning ceremony.
