The government has launched a stern crackdown on examination malpractice following alarming reports that some private schools are facilitating candidate impersonation during exams.
Primary and Secondary Education Minister, Honourable Torerayi Moyo, revealed that investigations are underway into cases of cheating that have been referred to the ministry.
"We have received reports that people are practicing malpractices. There is a multiplicity of malpractices that are being done in our schools, especially at independent colleges," Minister Moyo said.
He explained that in some cases, the registered candidate does not sit for the exam, but someone else is paid to take the exam on their behalf, particularly in key subjects such as language and mathematics.
"A bona fide candidate will not be sitting for an examination, but somebody has been paid to sit on behalf of the real candidate," he added.
Minister Moyo issued a firm warning to those involved in such fraudulent activities, stressing that the government will enforce the law "without fear or favour."
The ministry is committed to safeguarding the integrity of the education system and ensuring that all examinations are conducted fairly and transparently.
