Grandpa dies after night of heavy drinking

A night of drinking ended tragically for 78-year-old Sattulus Ncube, who allegedly died after consuming large amounts of alcohol, police confirmed.

Midlands Provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, said Ncube's body was discovered on the steps of his home in Section 7, Mtapa, on September 8.

According to police reports, Ncube visited Mboma Bar, about 2km from his house, on September 7. Around 8pm, his 40-year-old son reportedly joined him at the bar, purchased scuds for his father, and handed him US$30.

By 10pm, Ncube was seen staggering along the road, visibly intoxicated and struggling to walk, Insp Mahoko said.

The following morning, neighbours found Ncube lifeless at his home entrance. Police noted froth around his mouth and nose, indicating possible complications from heavy alcohol consumption.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the sudden death are ongoing.
