A 21-year-old Bulawayo woman is battling for her life at Mpilo Central Hospital after she was allegedly brutally assaulted and stabbed multiple times by her husband during a violent domestic dispute.
The suspect, Andrew Mhlanga (27) of Pumula South, is accused of stabbing his wife, Tatenda Muchauri, twice on the thigh, once on the buttock and once on the vagina after a heated quarrel over her decision to leave their matrimonial home.
Mhlanga appeared before Western Commonage regional magistrate Mrs Sibongile Marondedze facing attempted murder charges. He was remanded in custody to October 2, pending the release of a medical report.
Prosecutor Ms Christina Manyika told the court that on August 17, the couple had an altercation at their Pumula South home, prompting Muchauri to move to her maternal home in Old Magwegwe.
Three days later, Mhlanga allegedly followed her to Old Magwegwe, where he assaulted her with fists before forcing her to return with him to Pumula South. Upon arrival, he is said to have continued the assault, kicking her in the stomach several times before arming himself with a kitchen knife and stabbing her repeatedly.
Muchauri sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment.
Police confirmed the incident, which led to Mhlanga's arrest.
