A 38-year-old man from Old Magwegwe has appeared in court facing allegations of raping his ex-wife after breaking into her home in July.

Brighton Dube was brought before Bulawayo regional magistrate Mr Mark Dzira on charges of rape. He was remanded in custody to 1 October.

Prosecutor Hazel Ncube told the court that on 27 July, around 4AM, Dube, accompanied by a friend, smashed a bedroom window to gain entry into the woman's house. The complainant was reportedly asleep with her boyfriend at the time.

"The accused's friend chased the boyfriend away. He then dragged the complainant from her bedroom to the sitting room where children were sleeping," said Ms Ncube. "He switched off the lights, ordered her to lie on blankets and raped her."

The court heard that Dube allegedly raped the woman a second time during the ordeal. The complainant later underwent a medical examination, and a medical affidavit is expected to be tendered as evidence.

The case continues.
