Zimbabwe Warriors captain Knowledge Musona has been slapped with a hefty fine by FIFA following his red card during the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers Group C match against South Africa at Moses Mabhida Stadium in October.

The 35-year-old forward was dismissed in the 64th minute after receiving a second yellow card for unsporting behaviour. According to FIFA's disciplinary ruling, Musona was charged under Article 14 and Article 14.1(b) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, which deals with the misconduct of players and officials involving unsporting behaviour towards an opponent or another person.

As a result, Musona was fined 5,000 Swiss francs (approximately US$6,200) and handed a one-match suspension. He served the suspension during Zimbabwe's subsequent qualifier against Lesotho later that same international window.

FIFA also fined South African defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi an identical amount following his red card in stoppage time of the same fixture. Mbokazi was sent off after a reckless confrontation with Zimbabwe winger Tawanda Maswanhise.

The fiery Group C clash ended in controversy, with both teams finishing the game a man short after the double dismissal.
