The spotlight has shifted from the basketball court to the ballot box as the Basketball Union of Zimbabwe (BUZ) holds its eagerly anticipated elections on Saturday morning in Gweru.

A seasoned team of administrators is overseeing the process, with former union stalwarts David Mutambara, Bobby Chivaviro, Admire Masenda, and long-serving court official Tendai Mukuruva forming the elections committee. The quartet reportedly departed Harare in the early hours of Saturday to ensure the process runs smoothly.

Outgoing BUZ president Joe Mujuru, who will not seek another term, confirmed that the elections committee is fully in charge of the voting process.

"The committee will run the elections expected to usher in a new executive," Mujuru said, signaling the end of his tenure and paving the way for fresh leadership to guide Zimbabwean basketball into a new era.

All eyes are now on Gweru as stakeholders await the final results, which will determine the future direction of the national game.
