GWERU - The Midlands Province endured one of its deadliest Christmas holidays in recent years, with seven people murdered in separate violent incidents between 23 and 26 December, police have confirmed.

Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the killings occurred across Shurugwi, Gokwe South and Silobela, with suspects still at large in several of the cases.

Among the victims was 28‑year‑old Trust Mupanduki, who was stabbed by a man only identified as Taku at Safago Farm compound in Shurugwi. In Gokwe South, 20‑year‑old Malvin Fai Moyo was stabbed to death by Blessing Ncube.

In Silobela, 40‑year‑old Josphat Ncube was fatally stabbed by Adonis Bvenura and accomplices at Ndebele Bar, while in another Gokwe South incident, 30‑year‑old Anymore Chogodo died following a violent altercation at Guyu Business Centre.

"Police are appealing for public assistance to track down suspects, including Taku, Blessing Ncube and others involved in the incidents," Inspector Mahoko said.

"The success of our investigations hinges on cooperation and assistance from the public."

The spike in killings has raised concerns about violent crime during the festive season, with authorities urging citizens to avoid confrontations and report suspicious behaviour.
