England-born Zimbabwean referee Farai Hallam achieved a career milestone on Monday night, taking charge of Liverpool's 4-1 FA Cup third-round victory over Barnsley at Anfield.

The appointment is among Hallam's highest-profile officiating roles to date, placing him at the heart of one of English football's most historic venues during a major domestic competition.

Hallam, born to a Zimbabwean mother, has steadily progressed through the English refereeing system since starting at grassroots level in 2012. He made his English Football League debut in May 2023 and officiated his first FA Cup match last year, primarily working in Championship fixtures.

Before turning to refereeing, Hallam had a brief professional playing career, including a stint with Middlesbrough, and had expressed interest in representing Zimbabwe's senior national team, the Warriors.

His FA Cup appointment reflects growing recognition of his officiating skills and positions him among Zimbabwean referees making their mark on the international stage.
