SUPPORTERS of Highlanders FC have been assured by club chief executive Denzil Mnkandla that they need not worry about the state of the team, as a strong squad is being assembled for the 2026 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season.
Speculation had been mounting in recent days over how the club was assembling its squad, but Mnkandla clarified that all preparations are being conducted properly, ensuring players are fit and fans can look forward to a competitive season.
He confirmed that the players have undergone thorough medical examinations to assess their physical fitness, including checks on blood, heart, joints, bones and overall health.
"The health reports indicate that all players are in excellent condition," Mnkandla said. "They have been thoroughly assessed by our medical team, which means they are ready to begin preparations for the new season."
In line with team preparations, Highlanders have released some players and welcomed a group of new signings. Among the newcomers are Pride Zendera, Mongameli Tshuma, Tawanda Shenje from Hwange, Royn Nyamono and Rayton Chumance.
Players who have left the club include Mason Mushore, Mckinnon Mushore, Melikhaya Mthabisi Ncube, Honest Mhlanga, Nqobile Ndlovu, Martin Nhubu, Atusaye Nyondo, and Learnmore Muyambo.
The 2026 squad will be coached by South African Thabo Senong, assisted by Highlanders' former player and team leader, Mkhokheli Dube.
The team has also indicated that it will soon release the official list of players who will make the first-team bench for the upcoming season.
Senong, 45, has been tasked with guiding the team to finish among the top six in the league this year. He has signed a two-year contract with the club.
