DOZENS of passengers narrowly escaped death when a bus crashed into a tree in Harare on Tuesday morning, only for their ordeal to take a dramatic turn when a swarm of bees descended on them, police have said.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Acturus Road and Harare Drive, with authorities reporting that the driver lost control of the vehicle. The bus veered off the road and collided with a tree that was home to the bees.
"Several passengers sustained injuries while others were attacked by bees from the tree," said National Police Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi in a statement on Wednesday.
Emergency services responded promptly, transporting the injured to nearby medical facilities for treatment. The police have not disclosed the full extent of the injuries, but confirmed that the combination of the crash and the bee attack made the incident particularly chaotic and dangerous.
Authorities have urged drivers to exercise caution in areas where roadside hazards, including trees and wildlife, may pose additional risks.
