Construction of internal access roads in Maphisa Town Board is underway, following the area's recent elevation from a rural business centre to town board status.
The works focus on improving connectivity within the town, linking shops, markets, government offices, and residential areas, and are expected to boost mobility and facilitate the movement of goods and services.
Minister of State for Matabeleland South Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Albert Nguluvhe, emphasized the role of road infrastructure in unlocking economic potential.
"Upgrades such as the Gwanda–Maphisa road will greatly enhance connectivity and economic activity in the region, improving access to services and opening up opportunities in mining and agriculture," he said.
Maphisa, located in Matobo District, has seen growing economic activity and population expansion, with increased investment from local businesses and the diaspora. The town board now has enhanced administrative authority to plan, deliver services, and implement infrastructure projects.
The road upgrades are expected to complement existing major networks linking Maphisa to surrounding districts, positioning the town as a key emerging growth point in Matabeleland South.
