Dynamos FC battled through a rain-lashed and muddy Ascot Stadium to secure a 2-1 victory over TelOne FC in a rescheduled Matchday One Castle Lager Premier Soccer League encounter yesterday morning.
The "Glamour Boys" showed resilience on the waterlogged pitch, with Frank Agyemang and Jairos Kasondo scoring decisive goals after Jerry Chipangura had put the Wi-Fi Boys ahead in the second minute.
The win offered a crucial confidence boost for Dynamos, who were recovering from a heavy 5-0 defeat to Scottland FC in the Castle Challenge Cup. Coach Genesis Mangombe praised his side's determination under difficult conditions.
"Performance-wise, maybe ball retention and our entries into the final third were decent, considering the conditions. And all the duels we won... some decisions you can't make because of the weather," he said.
"We have to look at how we'll perform when the pitch is okay and everything's okay. But I'm happy the three points mean a lot to us — it gives us momentum going forward."
TelOne coach Herbert Maruwa admitted his team failed to maintain their early advantage.
"We gave away the lead and, ultimately, the game. The pitch was bad, but that's no excuse. We simply didn't do enough to hold on. Credit to Dynamos for fighting back — they deserved it today," he said.
The match, originally scheduled for Saturday, was postponed due to heavy rainfall. Yesterday's 10am kickoff was delayed by 20 minutes while officials, including PSL chief executive officer Rodwell Thabe, assessed the pitch.
After Chipangura's early strike, Dynamos equalised in the 18th minute through Agyemang's header, before Kasondo put them ahead on the half-hour mark, sealing the comeback victory.
