A 39-year-old man from the Chief Neshuro area in Mwenezi, Masvingo Province, died at his girlfriend's homestead after reportedly falling ill while visiting her last week.

Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the incident and urged members of the public to seek medical attention whenever they experience persistent health problems.

"We urge members of the public to seek medical attention early whenever they experience serious symptoms and to avoid excessive consumption of alcohol, especially when feeling unwell," he said.

Police said the now-deceased, Kelvin Tarungirira, left his home on 3 March 2026 at around 2PM, telling relatives he was travelling to Rutenga in search of employment.

However, he reportedly did not return home and instead proceeded to his girlfriend's residence in Gwareva Village under Chief Chitanga.

According to police, Tarungirira began complaining of chest and stomach pains on 6 March at around 7AM.

Despite his condition, he reportedly spent the day drinking traditional marula beer with his girlfriend.

The following day, his health reportedly deteriorated further and he failed to make it to the bus stop to travel back to his home area. He later returned to the girlfriend's house where he rested.

At around 9PM that evening, Tarungirira reportedly began groaning in pain before collapsing and dying at the homestead.

Police were alerted to the incident and the body was taken to Neshuro District Hospital where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
