Two Harare commuter omnibus drivers, Anywork Simbe (30) and Brighton Nyamukanda (30), have been further remanded in custody on charges related to the alleged kidnapping of a traffic police officer.

The pair appeared before Magistrate Ruth Moyo. The court heard that the incident began when a traffic officer observed the kombi picking up passengers at an undesignated point at the corner of Robert Mugabe Street and Julius Nyerere Street in Harare.

According to the prosecution, the officer boarded the vehicle while a colleague followed at a distance. When she identified herself and attempted to place the vehicle under arrest, the kombi allegedly sped off with her still inside.

The court heard that the vehicle was later stopped near Highlands shops, where the two accused allegedly held the complainant and forced her out. They are also accused of stealing her wallet, which contained US$396, identification documents, and bank cards.

Authorities say no property has been recovered, and the case remains under investigation as the accused await further court proceedings.
