President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Wednesday met a high-level delegation from the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights, currently on a promotional visit to Zimbabwe.
The delegation is led by the Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Women in Africa, Janet Ramatoulie Sallah-Njie, and is in the country for a four-day engagement programme.
During their visit, the team has held meetings with key stakeholders, including Jacob Mudenda and Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi, among other Government officials, independent commissions and civil society organisations.
Speaking after meeting President Mnangagwa at Munhumutapa Offices, Commissioner Sallah-Njie said the delegation was satisfied with the engagement and acknowledged progress made by Zimbabwe in promoting human rights.
"We had a constructive discussion with the President. We made him aware of the purpose of our visit to fellow African Union member states. We are going back satisfied about the dialogue we have held," she said.
The commissioner was accompanied by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Vimbai Nyemba.
The visit forms part of the commission's broader programme across African Union member states, aimed at assessing and promoting adherence to human rights standards.
Zimbabwe has in recent years received positive feedback from some regional and international bodies regarding its efforts to strengthen human rights protections and governance systems.
