Two Harare brothers have appeared in court facing serious armed robbery charges after allegedly storming a Glen Lorne home and robbing a couple of cash, valuables and household items at gunpoint.

Mike Nongwe (33) and John Nongwe (37) appeared before a Harare magistrate and were remanded in custody. They are expected back in court on April 30 for continuation of their defence case.

According to prosecutors, the incident occurred on March 11, 2025, at Highgate Close in Glen Lorne, where the two men allegedly targeted a couple, Robert Coventry and Lynette Shirley Coventry.

The State alleges that the accused used a pistol to threaten the victims before carrying out the robbery.

It is further alleged that the brothers stole US$11,450, R10,000, ammunition, jewellery, electronics and various household items during the raid.

Among the reported stolen goods were 40 rounds of .22 ammunition, 60 rounds of .243 ammunition, gold necklaces, bracelets, earrings, binoculars, an iPad, a Sony camera, solar chargers, tools, clothing items and assorted personal effects.

Prosecutors said all the items belonged to the complainants, who had lawful possession before the alleged attack.

The case is set to continue later this month as the court hears the defence's submissions.
