The Zimbabwe Republic Police has confirmed the arrest of Joseph Phiri (28) in connection with a series of armed robbery cases that occurred in Mahatshula suburb, Bulawayo, between December 15, 2025 and May 13, 2026.

According to police, Phiri initially operated with Challenge Lucky Neta (38), Trust Adam Mubvumbi (35) and Wellington Nyakurima, also known as Dombadomba (33), in carrying out seven robberies. The gang allegedly attacked victims using knives, sjamboks and pistols.

Police said the three accomplices were later arrested and remanded in custody at Khami Prison.

Authorities allege that after the arrests of his initial accomplices, Phiri formed another syndicate involving Pauros Hadebe, Oscar Ndlovu, also known as Mao, and Jomo Chomu. The group is accused of committing two additional robbery cases in Mahatshula East.

Police said one of the incidents gained widespread attention after a video circulated on social media allegedly showing a suspect wearing a maroon-and-grey bucket hat and grey jacket attempting to break into a house.

The police are now appealing for public assistance in locating Pauros Hadebe, Oscar Ndlovu and Jomo Chomu. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the National Complaints Desk on (0242) 703631, WhatsApp 0712 800 197, or report to the nearest police station.
