South Africa-based former Warriors star Onismor Bhasera has reportedly lost US$12,000 in cash after his Greenside home in Mutare was broken into over the weekend, with two suspects now in police custody.

According to reports, the suspects - allegedly given access to the property by Bhasera's daughter - were later found inside the house and arrested in connection with the theft. The two men are said to be relatives of the family.

It is reported that Bhasera's wife and child, who usually reside at the home, were visiting him in South Africa at the time of the incident.

Police allege that the suspects, together with two women, were found sleeping in the footballer's bedroom when a family member arrived to check on the property.

Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Wiseman Chinyoka referred inquiries to national spokesperson Paul Nyathi, who was not immediately reachable for comment.

Reports indicate that US$10,000 had been hidden inside a tennis shoe in a wardrobe, while a further US$2,000 was kept in a cash box behind a television set. Both amounts were allegedly stolen.

A family source said a relative who routinely checks on the house discovered the suspects inside the bedroom and alerted Bhasera's wife, who instructed that they be removed and that the keys be secured.

The source further alleged that the daughter had given the suspects access to the property, though it remains unclear under what circumstances the keys were handed over.

Police investigations are ongoing, and the stolen cash has reportedly not yet been recovered.
